Land of the Overhangs

Land of the Overhangs was most recently discovered by Ash Sankey. It is just south of the summit aerials. Drive over the top coming from Harcourt and turn right heading towards Dog Rocks. Shortly, turn off the road on the righthand side near some aerials/buildings to park in an open area. Walk into the bush, perpendicular to the road. The approach to the first problems takes about 5-10 minutes.

The boulders are scattered across the hillside.

1. Directly V1

2. First Impressions V1

3. Technique V4 (FA: Pete Reynolds)

4. Technique Traverse V5 (FA: Pete Reynolds)
Traverse all the way avoiding the other boulder and tree to top out just around the corner.

1. Land of the Overhangs V4 (FA: Pete Reynolds) (sit-start)

2. A Wonderful Life in the Country V4 (FA: Pete Reynolds)

3. Land of Plenty V4 (FA: Pete Reynolds)

Ash's to Ashes V3 (FA: Pete Reynolds) (Sit-start)

Four Tet V5 (FA: Pete Reynolds)
A contrived start out right leads to a span left to the arete which is climbed to the finish.

Love and Theft V8 (FA: Pete Reynolds)
An amazing line and a 3-star classic! Start low (where it says "start here" on the photo) and climb leftwards before topping out at the highest point. You can start even lower...harder but about the same grade!

  1. Hi, Thanks a lot for that guidebook. I wish there were more people sharing their knowledge. I found a cool problem (V3-4?), it is right beside the Land of the Overhangs boulder. From what I could see it did do not show any signs of having been climbed, as I had to clean it up a bit. I put a pic of it at Bouldr.net. You should put your problems on that website as well, so that everybody can contribute. I have seen a video on youtube with some problems at shepards flat lookout that are not in your guide, so I think it would be great to have a place where people can add the problems or projects they discover.
